The member state of WHO created world Anti tobacco day in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes.

According to WHO, tobacco use kills more than 8 million people around the globe each year. This is a number that is predicted to grow unless anti-tobacco actions are increased. Not only men but women smokers have been increased after 1990. In China, there are 2.32 crores women smokers where in india, there are 1.49 crores female smokers with third largest in the world. A report also says that 89% of new smokers are of the age of 25 or less. These numbers are very dangerous.
