World Coconut Day 2022

 September 2 is celebrated as the day is celebrated to understand the benefits of the fruit along with the raising awareness about how it can be grown and preserved. The day is marked by seminars and awareness campaigns with many farmers and businessmen exchanging ideas about coconut production. This Day was first celebrated in 2009 by the Asia Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) commemorating the creation of APCC. In 2009 the APCC decided to mark September 2 is World Coconut Day to promote awareness about the coconut fruit. Note that the APCC is an inter-governmental organisation of 18 member countries mandated to promote coconut developmental activities of the Asian Pacific regions. APCC is headquartered in Jakarta in Indonesia. All major coconut growing countries including India, are members of the APCC. The day is celebrated by farmers, experts and other stakeholders in the coconut going business. On 2nd September world promote the uses and importance of coconuts for mankind. Activities and events are planned for celebrating the coconut fruit on the day. This year’s theme for World Coconut Day is “Growing coconut for a better future and life” as the coconut tree is a symbol of life in many philosophies. In 2021 the theme was “Building a safe Inclusive Resilient and Sustainable Coconut Community amid COVID-19 pandemic and Beyond.” India is the third largest producer of coconuts worldwide.


The word ‘coconut’ is derived out of the combination of the words ‘nut’ and Portuguese word called ‘Coco’. Coconut contains antioxidants, antifungal and anti-viral and antibacterial elements and is useful for a variety of health benefits


Now let’s come on the origin of the fruit coconut. Coconuts probably originated somewhere in Indo Malaya and are one of the most important crops of the tropics. Coconut fresh is high in fat and can be dried or eaten fresh or processed into coconut milk or coconut oil. The celebration is aimed at creating an awareness about the importance of coconut it elevates poverty encourages investments and promote the development of coconut industry.
